How Brian can help

Five ways in. One plain-English conversation.

Every page of your tax life gets stamped somewhere: a Texas entity, a move abroad, a captive, a second passport. Brian has spent 25+ years making the complicated feel manageable.

  1. Tax planning & guidance

Personal tax guidance for individuals, small business owners and expats. It starts with a conversation about where you are and what you want, then a plan you actually understand.

    Start a conversation
  2. Texas franchise tax

Extensions, deadlines and the details that trip up Texas businesses, like the per-person compensation deduction limit applying across a whole combined group.

    Read the franchise tax notes
  3. US taxes for dual citizens

The US taxes its citizens wherever they live, and FATCA reporting follows you everywhere. Brian went through Italian citizenship by descent himself, so he knows both sides of the paperwork.

  4. Insurance taxation

A specialist in insurance taxation, including captive insurance companies, with day-to-day compliance and planning experience as a Director of Tax.

    What is a captive?
  5. Speaking & presenting

Speaker and panelist at national, regional and local conferences and meetings. Tax topics made clear, with a sense of humor.

The Second Look

Got a plan, a return or a letter that doesn't sit right?

Ask Brian for a second look. Send a few lines about what you have and what worries you. He will tell you, in plain English, what matters and what to do next.

No documents, no Social Security numbers. Just a short description to start.

  1. Tell Brian what is going on

A few lines in the form are enough: a plan someone gave you, a return that felt off, a letter, a move abroad, a new Texas entity. No Social Security numbers or documents needed to start.

  2. Talk it through

Brian gets back to you and you talk it through in plain English. No jargon wall, no pressure.

  3. Know your next step

You leave knowing what matters, what can wait and whether working together makes sense.

Dual US–Italian citizens

Two passports. One IRS that still wants to hear from you.

Brian's great-grandparents were born in Canistro, Abruzzo, and he went through having his own Italian citizenship recognized jure sanguinis. So when dual citizens ask what a second passport means for their US taxes, he has been on both sides of the paperwork.

    Citizenship-based taxation

The US taxes citizens on worldwide income no matter where they live. A second passport does not change that.

  • US·IT 02

    FATCA follows you

Foreign accounts still have to be reported. Moving to Italy, or anywhere, does not switch that off.

  • US·IT 03

    The Exit Tax question

Proposals like the Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025 raise the question of whether giving up US citizenship could trigger the IRC §877A Exit Tax. Brian breaks it down.

  • Chasing citizenship itself? Brian points people to the communities he trusts, like the Dual U.S.-Italian Citizenship group and the Jure Sanguinis community on Reddit, and to their vetted provider lists. His professional help is on the US tax side.

About Brian

An oak branch for Texas. An olive branch for Italy.

Brian's mark carries the oak branch from the seal of Texas and the olive branch from the emblem of Italy. It is a fair summary of the man: a CPA in Austin for over 25 years, with family roots in Abruzzo and a habit of making the complicated feel manageable.

Who does Brian work with?

Individuals, small business owners, nonprofits and expats. Brian is a CPA based in Austin, Texas with over 25 years of experience, and he also helps dual US–Italian citizens with the US tax side of their lives.

How do I get started?

Fill out the short form on the Tax Planning & Guidance page with your name, email and a few lines about what you need. Brian will get back to you soon. You do not need to send any documents or Social Security numbers to start.

Why is there no phone number?

Brian doesn't list direct contact info online because spam is real. The contact form reaches him directly, and you can also connect with him on LinkedIn.

Does dual citizenship change my US taxes?

Not by itself. The US uses citizenship-based taxation, so US citizens owe US tax filings on worldwide income wherever they live, and FATCA reporting for foreign accounts still applies. Whether anything else changes depends on your situation, which is exactly what a conversation with Brian is for.

Can Brian help me get Italian citizenship?

Brian shares his own jure sanguinis story and the resources he trusts, starting with the Dual U.S.-Italian Citizenship community and the Jure Sanguinis group on Reddit, and he suggests reviewing their vetted provider lists before hiring anyone. His professional help is on the US tax side.

Does Brian help with Texas franchise tax?

Yes. He writes regular franchise tax reminders, from second-extension deadlines to the $450,000 per-person compensation deduction limit that applies across a combined group.

Does Brian speak at conferences or events?

Yes. Brian is a speaker and panelist at national, regional and local conferences and meetings, and he is part of the Tax Retreat community. Send a note through the contact form to invite him.
